From September 12 to 14, 2023, the "17th National Academic Conference on Unshaped Refractory Materials" was held at Grand Metropark Hotel Nanjing in Nanjing, Jiangsu. This conference was hosted by the Refractory Materials Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, Sinosteel Luoyang Refractories Co., Ltd., Sinosteel Luoyang Institute of Refractories Research Co., Ltd., Nanjing Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., State Key Laboratory of Advanced Refractory Materials, and Refractories Magazine. Over 500 representatives from more than 500 organizations including research institutes, universities, and production enterprises in the refractory materials industry and its upstream and downstream sectors gathered together to discuss the latest progress in unshaped refractory materials in terms of new raw materials, new equipment, and new technologies over the past two years, and to accelerate the promotion of high-quality development in the refractory materials industry and high-temperature industry under the dual-carbon goals.

As a member unit of the Refractory Materials Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, Smile Co., Ltd. participated in this conference. As one of the organizers of the conference, Smile provided title sponsorship for the conference proceedings USB drive. Meanwhile, Professor Zhang Jinhua from Wuhan University of Science and Technology delivered a report titled "Effect of Composition on the Structure and Properties of Magnesium-Aluminum Spinel," conducting in-depth research on the crystal structure of the incubated product from the joint research institute of our company and Wuhan University of Science and Technology—defective spinel micropowder 90MA. The report elaborated on the product characteristics that as Al₂O₃ content increases, lattice distortion increases, reactivity increases, and slag erosion resistance improves.

During the conference, numerous industry experts and customers visited the booth and engaged in in-depth and enthusiastic technical discussions and product exchanges with our company's leadership and technical personnel. They expressed high recognition and praise for our company's core business philosophy and technical R&D capabilities.

The convening of this conference will help strengthen face-to-face communication and in-depth cooperation between refractory raw material and product enterprises and high-temperature industry customers, focus on the overall planning and forward-looking deployment of the high-temperature industry, and promote the refractory materials industry to improve resource utilization efficiency, optimize industrial structure, strengthen informatization and intelligentization of equipment, and accelerate transformation, upgrading, and leapfrog development with the connotation of long-life high efficiency, functionalization, energy conservation, environmental protection, and digitalization.
